3 Lessons Since Starting a Company

Since starting Cave, I’ve learned three pivotal lessons that have helped grow my business, team, and myself professionally. In this article, I hope to give you some tips to help you with your growth, in whatever space you are pursuing.

Specialize, Specialize, Specialize

Although when you first start your company you will want to be all things to all people, this is not a winning formula. Instead, really focus in on a niche, and think about how you can excel within it. For us, as a social media agency in Los Angeles, it was imperative to get out and get our message out to local businesses. This meant, that not only can we help businesses in LA succeed, but that it’s our primary goal. This simple shift in thinking helped us far more than I ever could have thought.

Delegate, You’ll Thank Yourself Later

As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to get into the mentality of, “I can do it” when it comes to daily tasks within your business. However, if you want your company to grow you need to be okay with delegating tasks for two reasons, (i) it puts belief in your staff and (ii) it frees up your time to think about how to build/improve your business oppose to handling all of the little things.

Have Patience

Things take time, seriously. You have to play the long game when it comes to your business, and know that it could take years before you “hit it big”. Alongside this long-term patience should be a bias for action in the short term. This means, having a sense of urgency in the short term but understand that building a company that lasts is going to take some time.
